Neue Bootleg Series-Folge feiert den frühen Bob Dylan

Bereits bevor Bob Dylan seinen Durchbruch 1963 mit dem Album „The Freeewheelin‘ Bob Dylan“ feierte, sorgte er in New Yorks Folkszene für Furore. Aus dieser Zeit und aus seinen ganz frühen Jahren in Minnesota existiert eine große Anzahl bislang offiziell noch nicht veröffentlichter Aufnahmen Dylans von Konzerten, Parties, Privatauftritten oder Aufnahmesessions. Unter dem Titel „Through The Open Window“ erscheint nun erstmals eine Auswahl dieser Aufnahmen aus den Jahren 1956 bis 1963 als 18. Folge der Columbia, Sony-Bootleg Series am 31. Oktober auf einer 8-CD-Box, einer Doppel-CD, einer 4-LP-Box sowie digital.

Das heißt, wir hören Robert Zimmerman aus Hibbing, Minnesota, mit einer Aufnahme von „Let’s The Good Times Roll“ von 1956. Wir folgen dem jungen Folksänger 1959 zu seinen ersten Auftritten im Dinkietown, dem Künstlerviertel von Minnesapolis und treffen ihn bei seinen ersten musikalischen Aktivitäten in New York 1961. Die musikalische Zeitreise endet mit Bob Dylans umjubelten Auftritt in der New Yorker Carnegie Hall 1963. „Von dieser Zeit und diesen Orten ist diese Sammlung nur ein Fragment“, schreibt der Autor und Historiker Sean Wilentz in seinem 125-seitigen Liner Notes-Essay. „Dennoch zielt die Sammlung als akustische Aufzeichnung der Entwicklung eines Künstlers zu sich selbst – oder in Dylans Fall seines ersten von vielen künstlerischen Ichs – darauf ab, Zeit und Raum zusammenfallen zu lassen, nicht als nostalgische Träumerei, sondern als lebendige Verbindung zwischen Vergangenheit und Gegenwart, Alt und Neu, die nie so deutlich voneinander getrennt sind, wie wir vielleicht denken.“

Während Einige schon wieder unken, dass dies ganz selbstverständlich die letzte Folge der Bootleg Series sein könnte, die den Kreis schließt, freuen sich die anderen darüber, dass nun endlich auch die Vorgeschichte des Folk-Rock-Superstars bestens dokumentiert und editiert ist. Wie auch immer: Ein musikalisches Zeitdokument nicht nur für die ganz harten Dylan-Fans.
